Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) Explained

A Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) is an industrial digital computer that is used for managing plant automation. Some applications include controlling factory assembly lines, amusement park rides, and waste water treatment plants. PLCs are durable and built to withstand harsh conditions and long hours of operation. Before PLC came along, assembly lines required extensive relays and timing mechanisms. Changing the automation process was time and resource intensive as the entire line would need to be rewired to the new specifications. Thanks tot he advent of the Programmable Logic Controller, these assembly lines and other industrial applications could now be more easily controlled and reprogrammed to suit the new requirements. Programmable Logic Ccontrollers are not your typical breed of computer, however. PLCs are durable and built to endure sever conditions such as extreme heat or cold. They are also modular in that they can be connected to a wide variety of analog and digital devices. A PLC may control magnetic relays, electric motors, Valves, solenoids, acuators, or analog outputs. Louks Engineering specializes in creating high quality extensible PLCs for waste water treatment plants. After meeting with you to discover your needs and requirements, our programmer and panel shop create your PLC and put it through the highest of quality control testing to ensure accuracy and functionality. Project: Waste Water Control Panel

Louks Engineering finished out 2014 with building a control panel for a waste water plant in Mississippi. The control panel is set up for local and remote control, and controls a total of 16 motors.  The operator has the ability to change the Dissolved Oxygen set points via the 7 inch AB control panel, monitoring the motor run time hours and viewing the system operation in real time. The system was successfully started the beginning of December. Does your waste water plant need a new control panel to optimize and enhance your operation? Contact Louks Engineering today for a free estimate and initial...
